bye, nana
My mom left this morning after being here for a few weeks ... I'm sure that Finn will be looking for her tomorrow morning. We'll miss her!
storytime with BOTH grandmas!
Lucky Finn. His Nana has been here for a couple of weeks now, and then Grandma Barber is here this week TOO. With his Auntie Ann/Colleen. So he's been getting lots of attention (even more than normal) and lots of storytime; in particular, many, many readings of "Do Pigs Have Stripes" and "Moo, Baa, LaLaLa." Both of which I have memorized.

daffodils!
Yesterday we all went to the Meriden Daffodil Festival, which was a really nice event despite the fact that we had to take a shuttle bus to and from the park and pay for everything with tickets once we arrived. It was worth it! Taking cues from Carson and Scarlett's visit last year, we rode the merry-go-round and petted the animals, and of course took in the flowers (and only tried to eat them once). It was a beautiful spring Saturday that we'll remember for a while, and Finn was great the whole time. What a champ! For all of our photos from yesterday, click here. I will post videos soon...

restaurant week
Sheesh! Sorry I'm having such a hard time choosing photos lately. Today Finn accompanied his Nana and me to a restaurant in Ninth Square for lunch during restaurant week. It was such a treat! After finishing his two jars of food, Finn moved onto our wasabi mashed potatoes. Then we asked the waitress for some bread (which he liked to teethe on) and applesauce. It was pretty much one of the best meals he's ever had. And we loved it too. So nice not to cook for a change.

swings!
We hit the baby swings in East Rock Park yesterday as it was 70 degrees and really feeling like spring! I'd say it was a mild success as Finn isn't big enough to fill out a swing and therefore didn't get quite as much enjoyment as last time, when I remembered to take a blanket for him to sit on. Regardless, it was fun to see him gliding through the air. We also brought some bubbles purchased last weekend at Cracker Barrel, and they were also a bust, reinforcing my theory that everything about Cracker Barrel is of mediocre quality.
The bottom photo is posted only because I finally bit the bullet and cut about 6" of hair off this week, and it looks so much better. You may not be able to tell here, but trust me.

april fun
I was sooo happy that Karen came up from nyc this week to visit. It was wonderful to catch up in person!
Finn has been in great spirits this week despite the tooth-that-refuses-to-poke-thru. Poor little guy wakes up holding his gums and crying but after a few seconds of being held (+teething tablets, homeopathic cold medicine that doesn't work but apparently tastes delicious, or motrin) is back to his smiling self. Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while may remember that I've been waiting for him to get this tooth for about oh, 5 months now. So ... still waiting.

getting taller
Although he's not yet crawling, Finn is certainly trying. And he LOVES when we hold him up to stand on the couch or near the coffee table. Standing makes his goal of grabbing every electronic device in the apartment that much easier to achieve! We are at Andrew's parents' house and unfortunately, Finn is coughing again, just a couple of days after his cold was almost gone. One of these days, maybe it will warm up ... would sure help ... !
P.s. thanks to Heather for this picture! i love it.

8 months!
Scrunchy Face.
We have had a busy week here with Mr. Finn. He turned 8 months old on Tuesday, which is sorta hard to believe. In the past few days he has really started to sit up on his own a lot more, which is very useful in the playing process. He has been VERY busy with his toys and in particular, the Very Hungry Caterpillar book. He has also been trying like the dickens to teethe. Yesterday was a sort of rough, motrin-y day ... he woke up in tears (real tears!) and was grabbing at his gums a lot. Of course he's not amused when I try to open his mouth and see if there's anything actually in there, but I managed a look and his bottom gums are still very white. So we wait. We have a nice routine down now where he sleeps til 7 am, eats breakfast at 8, lunch at 12, nap from 12:30-2:30, dinner and bath at 6, bed between 7 and 7:30. I'd elaborate but he's trying to type over me, so ... more soon!!

Palm Sunday with Aunt Heather
Heather visited us this weekend and we did lots of fun stuff, like eat, go to Target, go to Val's jewelry party, and take Finn to church for Palm Sunday. Ha! Ha! I say that as if we don't go to church EVERY Sunday! Which of course we do. Um, anyway, it was really fun to see her, and I was happy that Finn behaved so well in church. It was nice that he had that palm frond to keep him busy for the first 40 minutes.
tell me about these "jellybeans"
On Saturday morning, Marna and Penelope invited us (along with a bunch of other friends) over for an egg hunt and brunch. Finn was the youngest baby there and as such, was entertained by watching all of the other kids find eggs and eat candy ... he is totally amazed by "big kids" lately, and watches them as if conspiring to walk. I'm uber-happy that his Finn sweater still fits.

the bath seat and the belly
Thanks to Lauren for loaning Finn her baby bath seat, which she won't need for a few more months. We started using it recently as Finn was trying to roll over in the bathtub, and after a brief learning curve think it's really great. Finn is able to play with his bath toys as well as admire his bountiful belly ... one of my favorite things to do during the 6 PM hour. Isn't it funny how nobody asks if Finn likes to eat?! (His favorite foods this week: applesauce, carrots, more applesauce).
